Cookie policy
Every cookie this site can set, and how to refuse the optional ones
Cookie policy. Last updated . This document forms part of the site documentation.
The short version
betaider sets no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies, and loads no third-party tracking scripts. There is no advertising network, no tag manager, no pixel and no cross-site profile of you. The cookies below exist so that the site can answer the request you actually made and open where you left it.
1. What a cookie is here
A cookie is a small piece of text your browser stores for this site and sends back on the next request. This site uses them for two things only: to keep a choice you made, and — for administrators — to keep a signed-in session. Nothing in the list below identifies you as a person, and none of it is shared with anyone.
2. The two categories
- Essential. The language you are reading in, the record of your cookie choice, and the administrator's session. These are set whatever you choose, because without them the site cannot serve the page you asked for or remember that you declined.
- Preferences. The sport, the country and the bookmaker you picked. These are conveniences. Accept them and they are kept for a year, so your next visit opens where this one finished. Refuse them and they become session cookies: the site still follows your choices while you are here, and everything is gone when you close the browser.
That is the whole of what your answer changes. There is no third category, because there is nothing else being stored.
3. Every cookie, in full
This table is generated from the code that sets the cookies, so it cannot fall out of date.
| Name | Category | What it is for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
cookie_consent |
Essential | Remembers the choice you made about cookies, so you are not asked on every page. | 6 months |
viewer_lang |
Essential | The language you picked. Without it the site cannot serve the page in the language you asked for. | One year |
sport |
Preferences | The sport you last viewed, so the site opens on it next time. | This browser session (a year once preference cookies are accepted) |
viewer_cc |
Preferences | The country you chose in a "Betting from" or "Watching from" control, used to order bookmakers and channels. | This browser session (a year once preference cookies are accepted) |
viewer_book |
Preferences | The bookmaker you chose to see prices and codes for. | This browser session (a year once preference cookies are accepted) |
PHPSESSID |
Essential | Signs an administrator in to the admin area. Never set for ordinary readers. | Until the browser closes |
preview_admin |
Essential | Lets an administrator preview a section that is hidden from the public. Never set for ordinary readers. | 7 days |
4. Storage that is not a cookie
Your theme — light, dark or whatever your system prefers — is kept in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie. It is never sent to the server, so it cannot be read by this site or any other; clearing your browser's site data removes it. A few pages keep a draft of something you typed, a slip you were building for instance, in the same way and for the same reason: so a reload does not lose your work.
5. Cookies set by other sites
Two things take you off this site, and each brings its own rules:
- Bookmaker links. Following one leaves this site. What the bookmaker stores is governed by the bookmaker's own cookie and privacy policies, not this one. See the affiliate disclosure.
- Embedded video. Where a page embeds a stream from a third-party player, that player may set its own cookies once it loads. Nothing is embedded until you open a page that shows it.
6. Your choice, and changing it
Your current setting on this device is not yet chosen. Change it here at any time — this form works with or without JavaScript, and the same choice is offered by the banner and by Cookie settings in the footer of every page.
You can also refuse or delete cookies in your browser's own settings, for this site or for every site. If you delete the record of your choice, the banner will ask again. Blocking essential cookies is allowed and the site will still work, but it will not remember your language between pages.
7. Changes to this policy
If the cookies the site sets ever change in a way that would matter to someone who already answered, the policy version is raised and everybody is asked again rather than assumed to agree. The date at the top of this page is when the document last changed.
8. Questions
Anything about this page, including a request to have data removed, goes through the contact page. What the site stores on the server, as opposed to in your browser, is set out in the privacy policy.
